Renewable Energy Credits

All of us at Boulder Canyon Natural Foods understand that we must be strong stewards of the environment we live in. In addition to the many environmentally friendly changes we have made in the production of Boulder Canyon natural kettle chips, we are also purchase Renewable Energy Credits covering 100% of Boulder Canyon operations to support clean, green energy.

Our purchases prevent as many as 3,421,989 pounds of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere annually. This is the equivalent to one of the following environmental benefits:

– Removing 284 cars from the road for a year
– Converting 205 average U.S. households to renewable energy for a year
– The amount of CO2 absorbed annually be protecting 352 acres of forest

American Rivers

Boulder Canyon is a proud sponsor of American Rivers and the National River Cleanup because we share the same vision and dedication to a better, more naturalenvironment.   We help communicate that message with the American Rivers logo prominently displayed on our bags. Boulder Canyon also donates cases of chips, volunteer t-shirts, and trash bags to all river cleanups. Last year we donated over 70,000 trash bags used by volunteers to remove debris from rivers across the country. This year American Rivers will host approximately 500 cleanups thanks to 60,000 volunteers who help communities keep their rivers clean and trash-free.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative

All of the corrugated cardboard packaging used to transport and store our product meets the standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) label is a sign you are buying wood and paper products from a responsible source, backed by a rigorous, third-party certification audit.

Compostable Packaging

Boulder Canyon is proud to provide snacks that are better for the body in packaging that is better for the Earth. Select Boulder Canyon flavors are now offered in compostable packaging. These bags are certified to meet ASTM D6400 “Specification for Compostable Plastics” standards for all key biodegradation situations, including industrial, home and waste-water categories. The material is also recyclable through organic recycling (composting) facilities.

Our compostable bags are produced from wood pulp, sourced from managed plantations. The suppliers who manage these plantations either have, or are working towards Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or similar certification. Unlike corn and starch-based compostable bags, the wood pulp mitigates any potential negative impact on existing food supplies. Similarly, the material has the same energy value as wood and can be safely disposed of in modern incineration plants to recover the energy value.
